LinkedIn Acquires Social Media Gmail Plug-in Rapportive
This week news broke that LinkedIn has acquired start-up Rapportive, the San Francisco-based company that offers a free Gmail plugin that displays social media information for the person you’re corresponding with. LinkedIn has decided to support Rapportive and will not be shutting the service down but plans for what the two companies will be working on together remain under wraps. LinkedIn’s Director has stated that the goal of Rapportive to deliver relevant information in an email platform aligns well with LinkedIn’s mission to make professionals more productive and successful in their careers. This acquisition sounds like a smart move for LinkedIn and I’m interested to see how LinkedIn will leverage the information that Rapportive provides to enhance users’ contact lists and networks.
